The people have inquired and we will answer! I've gathered the frequent questions people have asked about our dear Bellingham and want to address them - all of them! That being said, I will be dripping out some blog posts that address the questions about Bellingham that people are searching for!
Let's begin!
My personal favorite: "Is Bellingham Washington"
My answer: Probably!
In all seriousness, there are a LOT of inquiries - I'm going to go through them alphabetically. Let's start with the A's!
Q: Bellingham Washington average home price?
A: In December 2024, the average home price in Bellingham Washington was $694,681 up 2.2% from December of 2023 which was $671,474. Whatcom County in December of 2023 was $573,617 and in December 2024 was $595,181 (up 3.8%).
Q: Which airlines fly into Bellingham Washington?
A: Alaska/Horizon, Allegiant, and San Juan. We used to have Southwest as well but they left BLI when making system wide adjustments as a result of jet delivery delays from Boeing.
Q: Annual rainfall?
A: Contrary to popular belief, it is not always raining here! I was able to find many sources reporting an average rainfall of 39 inches; this is comparable to many other Washington cities. For comparison, Miami gets 57in/year, New York City gets 43in/year.
Q: Activities?
A: Where to even begin?! Many of our locals move here or stay here because of the ample recreational activities! Our geography is not only nice to look at, but it is incredible to play in! Tucked between the sea and mountains, we are gracious recipients of all kinds of play: the ocean offers paddle boarding, kayaking, boating, and many gorgeous spots to swim in! In addition, we are lucky to be able to ferry to our remarkable San Juan Islands. Ascending from sea level, folks can enjoy a myriad stunning hikes of many different skill levels, mountain biking, and snow sports! Our community is rooted in creativity so there are many art fares and markets on most weekends (especially in the summer), there are many art galleries, First Friday Art Walk, and museums. There is no shortage of breweries in town that offer an array of atmospheres and events; trivia, game nights, and many other creative evenings. Prefer adult grape juice? Our wine walk is one you don't want to miss!
And the summers - oh, the summers! We are the proud host of Ski to Sea, a massive and ever-growing multi-sport race that starts on Mt. Baker and ends in Bellingham Bay. We have Northwest Tune-Up Festival that brings in an impressive line up of musicians for a weekend long festival as well as invites folks to bring their bikes and enjoy local beer! Paper Whale is a legendary organization in town that uplifts our community by hosting many events including the Noisy Water Mural Festival that celebrates indigenous artists, brings together creatives from all over the world to be a part of their mission to give representation to these communities while beautifying Bellingham. They also host an epic festival called Fire & Story that is a three-day event of fire, story, song and performing; creatives design beautiful fire pits so our community is illuminated by these fires while indulging in fantastic performances from many different perspectives!
And so, so much more.
Q: Average rent?
A: Ok, as a renter myself, gathering the answer to this question was shocking. Bellingham's rent has increased faster than any other city in Washington and the rest of the country; up 22% since 2020. According to many sources, the average rent in Bellingham currently sits between $1,504 and $2,031. Zoinks!
